2017 Opportunities for All Meeting

Opps4All - San Diego 2017

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 to Wednesday, December 6, 2017
San Diego, CA

About the Conference

We want to provide our members the opportunity to share/discuss challenges and successes in implementing the Opportunities for All (O4A) campaign; to brainstorm ways to improve collaboration on campus and with other AASCU members at the regional or system level and to bring them on board with the campaign; and to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing higher education today and how we can leverage aspects of the O4A campaign in talking about these issues. In addition to member participation, we anticipate hearing from internal and external stakeholders about how they view the campaign and its value.

Framing the State College and University Story in the Current Political Environment
In 2017 proposed federal budget and policy changes, and weak state funding for higher education raised questions and posed challenges in many states. Given the current climate, how did your university tell its story and what are your plans in the new year for framing your story with state and federal policymakers, state and local employers, and potential new students and their families.

Speakers/Discussion Leaders:
Mark Kinders, Vice President for Public Affairs, University of Central Oklahoma
Philip Garcia, Vice President for Public Affairs & Advocacy, California State University, Sacramento

3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Challenges and Opportunities for Building State College and University Brand Support
With nearly 60 members of AASCU committed thus far to the O4A campaign, we are seeing continued interest and momentum. Some SCUs are realizing opportunities to integrate O4A into everything from government relations to admissions to community relations, whereas others are finding it challenging to get it off the ground or sustain engagement across their campus. This session will address challenges to integration efforts, where there have been early successes and the next steps to build on momentum.

Speakers/Discussion Leaders:
Jeffrey Noblitt, Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, California State University, Northridge
Brenda Alling, Director of Marketing and Communications, Washington State University Vancouver
