Project Description:Indiana State University (ISU) has developed articulation agreements between its ABET/ETAC accredited Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program and related A.S. and A.A.S. programs at Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, and Lake Land College. These agreements help graduates of associate degrees in design/drafting, mechanical, or engineering technology fields to earn a B.S. in MET degree to advance their career. Also, this is the final step in an advanced manufacturing career pathway that begins with a Certified Production Technician certification earned through a High School Dual Credit partnership between Ivy Tech and a local high school, and ends with a B.S. degree in MET. This career pathway is critical for meeting the human resource demands of the Wabash Valley Advanced Manufacturing Cluster. In the most recent semester, the MET program has seen international associate degree graduates joining the program.
Objectives:

o  Provide a transfer friendly program for students with two-year degrees to continue study for a B.S. degree. Agreements have been developed for students with the following degrees: A.S. and A.A.S. degrees in Design Technology from Ivy Tech, A.S. and A.A.S. degrees from Vincennes University in Drafting and Design/CAD and A.A.S. degrees from Lake Land College in CAD or Mechanical-Electrical Technology.

o  Meet human resource needs of member companies of the Wabash Valley Advanced Manufacturing Cluster.

o  Increase enrollment in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program.

Outcomes:

o  Enrollment in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program has grown from an enrollment of 127 in 2010 to 181 in 2012.

o  Between 25-35 students transfer from a 2-year school into the program each year.

Challenges/Problems Encountered:Articulation agreements with A.A.S. degrees are more complicated than with A.S. degrees.  Generally, A.A.S. students will have additional requirements to meet the ISU’s Foundational Studies program and MET’s mathematics and science requirements. 
Evaluation Approach:The articulation agreements are evaluated to determine if they are simple to comprehend for the prospective students and the ISU Admission counselors/recruiters. There should be no ambiguity regarding what credits are going to be accepted as transfer credits and what courses the admitted students would be required to complete at ISU in order to complete their B.S. in MET degree.
Potential for Replication:This program could be easily replicated to address specific regional employment needs.
