STATEMENT BY AASCU PRESIDENT MILDRED GARCÍA, ED.D., ON FAILED SENATE ATTEMPT ON DACA

February 15, 2018

I am deeply disappointed that this afternoon, none of the bipartisan proposals to protect our nation’s 1.8 million Dreamers received the votes needed to move forward in the U.S. Senate. The failure to come to agreement leaves the future of 1.8 million young people, many of whom know no other country than the United States as home, on hold and uncertain. I call on Congress and the president to act decisively to end this unnecessary suffering for Dreamers and the damage it does to our nation's future.
