Department of Sociology, University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka)
I wish to get involved in a program where the members of the academic faculty of our department could obtain some training in teaching methods and capacity building in the areas of sociology and anthropology. We have changed into the American system of education (course unite system) recently and it is a new system without much experience for most of the faculty. Also, 80 percent of the faculty did not have an exposure in the United States or in the west, and therefore their capacity for teaching and research is somewhat limited. I wish to get them exposed to a U.S. university system at least for one semester each in order to develop their capacities. I am thinking about 7 persons.

Livestock in Bangladesh are very vulnerable to various parasitic infections and losses incurred by the parasites are enormous, therefore, parasitism is one of the main impediments for sustainable livestock development in the country. So far sustainable control approaches against livestock parasites are not available In Bangladesh, excepting some ad--hoc or need based treatment regimen of parasite infected animals. In recent years, various alternative control means are being practiced elsewhere in the world with emphasis on ethnoveterinary/ plant medicine. Therefore, to explore that an overseas partner would benefit us immensely.

Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania)
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness desires to collaborate with an American University that has the expertise and long experience in the field of entrepreneurship, particularly in agribusiness planning and management. The partnership is aimed at assisting the department in:
- training local staff
- teaching agribusiness courses to undergraduate students

- establishing a planned Business Centre aimed at offering short courses in business planning and management to the private sector in the country.
Tanzania is currently in the transitional stage, moving from a centrally-planned to a market-oriented economy that gives the private sector top priority in running and managing the economy. Unfortunately, business training in our education institutions is lacking but is very essential for the market economy to have the expected impact. The collaboration is expected to enable the department to build the needed capacity and ability to meet the nation's objective of getting qualified manpower in business planning and management essential for managing its economic activities.

The University of Lubumbashi (Democractic Republic of Congo)
The University of Lubumbashi is dealing, since the colonial period, with a Reference Hospital where most outstanding Professors and researchers of the Province work in close relation with the Faculty of Medecine. However, since the nineties the multidimentional crisis known by the country (Congo, DRC) has made it difficult to sustain all efforts especially directed to two units situated in very poor municipalities: Ruashi and Katuba. The environments represent a lot of interest in medecine. Because of extreme poverty, the two municipalities are largely exposed to different subequatorial diseases which are otherwise "cured" traditionally with the help of roots and witchcraft doctors. Such a situation leads often to quarrels and to issues which impoverish more and more the very poor population. The two municipalities which are at two different ends of Lubumbashi Town constitute two important fields of propagation of AIDS. Drivers of trucks coming from southern countries, transiting in Zambia have there opportunities of meeting female partners at very low prices. In addition, the environment still recognizes the African custom which gives a person the obligation of succession as far as wives are concerned. Finally, the two places are considered peaceful and cheap by those who work in town. Consequently, the rate and risk of AIDS are very high.
We are searching for a partner to lead some studies and research (and if possible medical personnel may also benefit of trainings). By the same token, the two units will have means for dealing in a more humanly acceptable way with medical care of the population.

Yerevan State Medical Universit (Armenia)
The Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) offers its highly developed scientific infrastructure for biomedical research and technology cooperation. International institutional collaborators are invited to use this infrastructure for joint research projects (both basic and applied), practical training of young scientists, individual training for the students, and summer schools. We are interested in matches such as university medical schools and research centers. Detailed information about ongoing and completed research projects at YSMU and our international cooperation experience available upon request.
