Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD), Detroit, Michigan added 11/16/04

Since 1969, WCCCD has been a leader in delivering adult education, workforce development, career and technical programs to diverse populations. WCCCD provides education to over 40,000 students annually. As a comprehensive community college, the District provides: education, GED preparation, short-term training, transfer programs and distance learning technologies. The District seeks to collaborate its expertise with institutions in developing countries through training, exchange programs, workforce development, technological solutions, international student enrollment, and projects. District staff recently visited South Africa to identify HEIs, faith and community-based organizations for collaboration. WCCCD is now working with leaders in Johannesburg to donate books to libraries; partnering with a community-based organization in Cape Town to provide adult learning materials and technological expertise; and identifying high schools in Kerksdorp to donate teaching materials.

Global Health Network Supercourse Project Department of Epidemiology Graduate School of Public Health University of Pittsburgh

Global Health Network Supercourse Project is a global library of PowerPoint lectures on prevention and public Health, shared for free by the best faculty members world wide. Over 10000 people joined the network from over 150 countries. The project was originally funded by NASA and currently funded by the National Library of Medicine, NIH. We are looking for individuals and institutions who would be interested in joining the project by sharing their PowerPoint lectures or courses with the Global Health Network. Any faculty members from medical schools and schools of public health, medical doctors, nurses, and students are encouraged to join the network. Specifically, we encourage Supercourse participation for faculty members from the developing world.

Golden West College

Location: Huntington Beach, CA (Orange County) near the one of the world's finest surfing beaches (Pacific Ocean) two year public comprehensive community college enrollment: about 12,800 student full time equivalent: 10,000 One of top transfer institution to the California State University and University of California 4 year university programs. Vocational training: in Nursing (ADN program), Criminal Justice, Police Officer Academy for Southern California Police Agencies, CISCO Certification Academy with certificate in multiple software and hardware areas in computer science, automotive technology, diesel technology, auto body repair, award winning cosmetology and estetitian training where graduates are hired by Jose Eber and other well known hair stylists. Broadcasting and cable casting training programs. Electronic Technician training. Accounting Technician training. General Education first two years of college with a strong emphasis in Science, Mathematics and the Fine and Performing Arts. Interested in connections with Spain, Italy, South America (Chile, Uruguay, Argentina). Currently work with Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Great Britain and have students from over 39 countries in attendance. International student enrolment is now about 175 and interested in increasing it to 350. Interested in exchanging students, faculty and comparable programs in two year or certificate training areas.

Institute for Telecommunications, Oklahoma State University (added 6/16/03)

The Institute for Telecommunications at Oklahoma State University has been a leader in using technology for distance education for 20 years, having installed the first educational teleport in existence in 1983. Since that time, the Institute has continued to lead in the development and implementation of all forms of electronically mediated instruction. In the last five years, the Institute has shared expertise with universities and government agencies overseas, including the Universidad de Industrial in Bucaramanga, Colombia and the Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. Areas of assistance include assessment of existing infrastructure and institutional needs assessment, network design and equipment selection, training of Systems Administrators/Managers, system integration and installation, and distance education faculty/staff training.

Juarez Lincoln Marti International Education Project (added 1-9-02)

The Juarez-Lincoln-Marti International Education Project (which, for its education goals could have also been named Sierra-Dewey-Luz Caballero ) is completely dedicated to providing faculty development opportunities and exchanges, finding scholarships for faculty, students and staff, developping technology infusion and classroom administration workshops and donating educational materials to Mexican and Iberoamerican universities, especially small, public provincial institutions. Since its inception in 1994, the Project established contacts with many Mexican universities and research centers, travelled to Mexico with scores of donated mathematics and science textbooks, software and other teaching materials for various universities, maintained two email information lists (for Academics and researchers) and found full scholarships that have brought 18 Mexican faculty to participate in the SUNY/FACT Conferences for Instructional Technology (CIT).

Management Development Programs and Services, The Pennsylvania State University (added 12/4/01)

M.D.P.&S. is a university outreach program for management and executive development. It specializes in flexible and timely responses to client needs to improve organizational effectiveness. The faculty combines academic expertise with practical management experience to design and deliver programmatic interventions that will benefit clients. Programs can be delivered at the university, on-line, or at the client`s site, anywhere in the world. Ridgewater College Center for Global Education in Agriculture (added 3-14-01)

Service through teaching and the transfer of technical skills is the core of our programs, and dedication to service is an essential component. Our partners serve by bringing their energy and skills to help fulfill the goals identified by expert local faculty and industry personnel. 

The program combines service with real-world learning. Training partners routinely leave the global training experience with a new appreciation for the host country and its people. Program areas include agribusiness, aquaculture, dairy management, farm business management, diesel mechanics, farm operations and management, horticulture/specialty crops, natural resources technology, swine management, taxidermy, waste/water management, wilderness management, geographic information systems, safety/environment compliance, veterinary technology, and women in development.

WERC, a Consortium for Environmental Education & Technology Development (New Mexico)(added 5/28/03)

 

WERC is a consortium of the 3 major universities in New Mexico (NM State University, University of NM and NM Tech) with support from DOE and EPA. We provide outreach regionally and internationally on issues of waste minimization, pollution prevention, and environmental education. Out clients include students, businesses, industry, municipalities, and the Native AMerican Tribes. We also provide scholarships to students studying environmental engineering and environmental education. Our Pollution Prevention Center provides free on-site assistance to businesses on ways to reduce waste and increase energy efficiency. We work on EPA pollution prevention grants in Mexico and have provided assistnace on USAID projects in India and Central Europe.
