INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS IN HIGHER EDUCATION FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
ALO Announces 18 New Higher Education Partnerships for Global Development
Washington, DC (March 12, 2004) - The Association Liaison Office for University
Cooperation in Development (ALO), in cooperation with the U.S. Agency
for International Development (USAID), announces over $1.7 million in
awards under its peer-reviewed 2003 Institutional Partnerships competition.
Eighteen U.S. colleges and universities received the awards for projects
with colleges and universities in 17 USAID-assisted countries. The awards
are for up to $100,000 each with a minimum requirement for matching funds
of 25 percent.
The partnerships address one of several USAID priorities in higher education:
higher education leadership and administrative transformation, workforce
development and community colleges, agriculture and environment, management
of private and public sector institutions in countries severely affected
by HIV/AIDS, improving the quality of teacher training colleges and institutions,
and MBA programs and private sector development. In addition, several
partnerships received awards for activities that reflect emerging policy
and technical solutions to development challenges.
