Welcome
Thirty-six years ago, I assumed the presidency of Murray State University, the first of three universities I have been privileged to serve. Virtually my entire professional career has been dedicated to public higher education and to the values which AASCU espouses and embraces. I pledged to our Board of Directors, and to each of you, my best efforts to help AASCU;
- • be an advocate for public higher education and the students we serve;
- • influence federal policy and regulations in behalf of the work of our member colleges and universities;
- • serve as a resource to presidents and chancellors as you address state policy matters and important campus issues; and
- • provide professional development opportunities for president and chancellors and their spouses.
In looking back on my presidential tenures, I recall many exhilarating moments -- and a few depressing ones. But the strongest memories are those that flow from the network of friends found in AASCU and from our common efforts in service to higher education and the institutions we lead. My goal is to further AASCU's influence and strengthen these services.
