The lobby of the Westin in Old Towne Alexandria, VA

The Grants Resource Center Fall 2008 Conference will be held October 5-8, 2008 in Old Town Alexandria, VA. While adapting to change is inherent to successful grantseeking, political and economic adjustments beginning in 2009 will require the sharpening of institutional priorities.

The agenda will allow attendees to examine their campuses' priorities, identify national trends in federal and private grantmaking, and hear the predictions of Washington experts on how the coming fiscal year will unfold.

National Priorities...Beginning with keynote addresses by the Chronicle of Higher Education's Jeffrey Selingo and Eastern Connecticut State University’s President Elsa Nunez, experts will arm attendees with actionable information on FY 09, providing detailed analyses of funding for the higher education sector, and focused support for the humanities, social services, international partnerships, and science and technology. Attendees will develop strategies to use the national agenda to support their institutional goals.

A Featured Agency...National Science Foundation representatives, from senior agency administrators to the directors of the programs most popular among GRC members, will spend an afternoon with attendees. Presentations and individual meetings will allow participants to gather the information needed to best secure NSF support in the age of America COMPETES.

Member Expertise...Through workshops, roundtables and panel discussions, colleagues will share strategies for implementing institutional goals focused on economic development, environmental sustainability, sponsored programs administration, and more.

The preliminary program is now available online. To volunteer to lead a roundtable discussion or offer input into agenda development, contact your GRC program advisor. Also note that the Society of Research Administrators (SRA) International Annual Meeting will be held in National Harbor, MD October 9-13, 2008. The coordinated GRC/SRA back-to-back schedule is offered to promote a cost-effective way for members to attend both meetings.
