THE Leadership Program for State College and University Presidents
The New Presidents’ Academy, a special leadership opportunity designed for new AASCU presidents and chancellors, is tailored to the distinctive needs of presidents and chancellors who lead state college and university campusesthat serve as “stewards of place” for their communities and regions.

About the Conference

The emphasis of the Academy will be on the establishment of a strong presidential base. It is designed to provide both the know-how and the tools to forge a solid presidency. It will be an intensive, highly focused program, a group of tightly connected topics and experiences. The focus is on developing and enhancing skills that will carry participants through their presidential career.


Presidents and chancellors at AASCU member institutions who are serving in this capacity for the first time and who assumed their presidencies within the past two years (since spring 2010).

Fees top

The registration fee of $1,900 includes all Academy program costs, materials, and meals during the four and a half day program. Participants are responsible for paying their own travel and hotel costs.

Payment must be submitted to AASCU before the Academy begins but need not accompany the registration form. Sorry, we cannot accept telephone or e-mail registrations.

Room Rate

When calling Grand Geneva, mention that you are with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities to be assured of our group rate of $199 per night, plus taxes, and a campus fee of $15 per night which covers access to the fitness center, wireless internet, telephone calls, and transportation on the conference center grounds.

Reservations may also be made on line through Grand Geneva’s website using the group reservations code—AASCU.

Hotel Reservation Deadline

Reservations should be made before Friday, July 6, 2012 to be assured of our group rate. Room reservations after that date will be on a space available basis and may be at a higher rate. Reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival to avoid a penalty of one night’s room charge and tax.


The airports closest to Grand Geneva are Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) (about an hour away) and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD) (about 90 minutes away).

Shuttle services to the hotel are available from both airports are available via the Grand Geneva Airport Transportation Portal through Go Airport Connections. Roundtrip shuttle service from Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is approximately $165 (including taxes and gratuity). From Chicago's O'Hare Airport (ORD), roundtrip shuttle service is approximately $352 (including taxes and gratuity).

Note: All Academy events will be held at Grand Geneva or will have transportation provided by AASCU, so you will not need a rental car for any purpose other than airport transportation.


Cancellation & Refund Policytop

Please advise AASCU immediately if a participant must cancel. Registration fee will be refunded with no cancellation penalty.

Accommodations Cancellation & Refund Policy:
Hotel cancellations must be received at least 72 hours before scheduled arrival in order to avoid a penalty equal to one night's room and tax. (Before canceling, call Dorcas Colvin at AASCU, (202) 4678-4644, so another guest can be accommodated if there is a waiting list.)
