In 2011, after horrific flooding of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant caused by an earthquake-triggered tsunami, Kennesaw State alumnus Chuck Casto was chosen to lead relief efforts from the United States. Casto, who worked for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and had 38 years of experience in the nuclear safety and regulatory issues within the commercial nuclear industry, headed to Japan and served in that pivotal role during Operation Tomodachi.
