Bluetooth-equipped devices, used around the world, trace their technology’s origins and name to James Kardach. An Intel mobile computing engineer, Kardach was instrumental in bringing together Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba to form the Bluetooth SIG in 1998. Today, more than 10 billion Bluetooth devices are in use worldwide, with the number expected to double in the next decade. As a member of the Bluetooth invention team, Kardach also had the idea for its name — he was reading a historical novel about Vikings and Danish King Harald Bluetooth at the time.
