Mario Chard had his poem, “Machismo,” published in the final 2016 issue of The New Yorker. The poem touches on issues of national identity, immigration and drug use. After graduating from Weber State, Mario completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Purdue University and earned the Wallace Stegner Fellowship in poetry from Stanford University. Among his many accomplishments, Robert Pinsky, a former U.S. poet laureate, selected Mario’s book Land of Fire for the Dorset Prize from Tupelo Press. Currently, Mario teaches English at an independent preparatory school in Atlanta.
