Senator Shaheen (D-NH) is the first woman in the history of the United States to be elected both a governor and a United States senator. She is a former teacher, state senator for New Hampshire, and was director of Harvard University’s Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government. In the U.S. Senate, Shaheen serves on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Committee on Foreign Relations, where she chairs the Subcommittee on European Affairs and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
