SIUE alum Gib Singleton attended the Chicago Art Institute on a full scholarship and later studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. From the Vatican art studio, he assisted with the restoration of Michelangelo’s Pieta. Gib created the bronze crucifix atop the crosier carried by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. At Jacqueline Onassis’ request, Gib assisted with the restoration of Florence’s centuries-old flood damaged art. His western, religious and contemporary work is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Vatican Museum and the State of Israel.
