Robert Fine developed a new chemotherapy drug regimen that can add as much as two years to a pancreatic cancer patient’s life.
Dr. Fine and colleagues at Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center have also patented a gene therapy that has prevented cancer in mice that were genetically predisposed to develop pancreatic tumors.
Dr. Fine will receive the first Ruth Leff Siegel Award for Excellence in Pancreatic Cancer Research. The $25,000 prize will be presented on Sept. 23, 2013 at the Columbia University Faculty Club.
