Dan Rather graduated from SHSU in 1953. After graduation, he was hired by the The Houston Chronicle. By 1961, he was news director for the CBS affiliate in Houston. His coverage of Hurricane Carla caught the eye of network executives, who hired him as a correspondent. He was in Dallas during the assassination of President Kennedy. In 1975, he became co-anchor of "60 Minutes," and in 1981 was selected to replace Walter Cronkite as anchor of "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather." He also began hosting “48 Hours” in 1988. Today, he is host of “Dan Rather Reports,” on AXS-TV.
