For five decades the American Association of State Colleges and Universities has worked with its members to deliver on the American promise of access, affordability, and educational opportunity and on their commitment to serve as stewards of place. It is the dedication to these ideals that has bonded AASCU and its members since the association’s founding in 1961. AASCU’s distinction resides in the work we undertake on behalf of our members that includes advocating for a student-focused federal public policy agenda; demonstrating a unique capacity in state policy information and analysis; and sustaining a cohesive network of presidents and chancellors, supporting innovative leadership and helping them advance their teaching-learning, research and service roles. These are extraordinary times. Public higher education is facing great challenges, and with great challenges come great opportunities. AASCU plays a vital role in addressing both the challenges and opportunities that confront our members and in fostering a climate that is supportive of their missions. Working collaboratively, we can provide responsive and inspirational leadership on behalf of public higher education, and in doing so, serve our members, and distinguish our campuses as places of public purpose and as stewards of the public trust.
