2020 MLI Institute Application

Application Requirements

The 2019 MLI Institute will be held May 31 - June 4, 2019 in Washington, DC.  Successful applicants will demonstrate the leadership experience necessary to achieve a presidency or chancellorship in higher education or to advance to vice president or provost. In addition to the above experience, candidates must possess a terminal degree or have significant experience as a senior executive. Equivalent experience outside the academy in government or the private sector is acceptable. All candidates must be nominated by a president or chancellor, or by a chief operating officer from a large complex university or organization. In addition, an applicant must:

  1. Obtain a letter of nomination from their president, chancellor or CEO. The nomination confirms that the applicant's institution or nominating institution agrees to provide monetary support for their participation in MLI.
  2. If accepted, commit to participate in all of the scheduled sessions beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 through Tuesday evening, June 4. Admitted applicants should plan to depart Washington no earlier than the morning of Wednesday, June 5.
  3. After the MLI Institute, commit to participate in the yearlong mentor/protégé component and participate in professional coaching for 8 months.
  4. Complete the application by Friday, February 1, 2019.
