Millennium Leadership Institute Mentor Request
Form
Please read the instructions and
complete the mentor selection form before you leave the institute
on June 18, 2007
- Each protégé in the AASCU Millennium Leadership Initiative will be assigned a Mentor who will provide career advice and guidance during the year following the MLI Institute. Mentors will be presidents and chancellors or former presidents and chancellors, many of whom are from groups underrepresented in higher education. All mentors have made a commitment to encourage and guide junior colleagues to advance in their careers.
- Members of the mentor committee and AASCU will determine the mentor/protégé assignment. AASCU will notify you and your mentor of the match by the first week in September.
Please realize that no assignments can be made until all mentor request forms are received.
- AASCU will assign your Mentor based on the information you provide on this form, so please respond as specifically as possible. The goal is to match you with an individual who embodies the institutional and personal characteristics or preferences you specify and whose strengths appear to be compatible with the goals you define. You will be most successful if you define these preferences and goals clearly. To avoid disappointment, do not expect to be assigned a specific individual you meet at the MLI Institute—although you may suggest a president you met—to provide a clear picture of the type of mentor you think will be most compatible. There are many committed and dedicated presidents who do not serve as faculty at the MLI Institute and volunteer to mentor.
- Unless you indicate that travel is not an obstacle, efforts will be made to link you with a Mentor in the same geographical region (to facilitate face-to-face encounters). At least one campus visit is expected and additional face-to-face encounters encouraged.
- AASCU will share your professional profile with your mentor (prepared from the on-line application submitted) and your professional development plan (revised after your consultation with your advisor).
