Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have played an essential and unique role in the nation’s long path toward justice and equality. They are also a critical, and often neglected, component of the American higher education infrastructure. We are pleased with the administration’s recognition of their indispensable contributions, and urge the White House and Congress to build on today’s announcement with funding practices that will strengthen HBCUs and allow financially disadvantaged students the opportunity to realize their full potential.
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) is a Washington, D.C.-based higher education association of more than 400 public colleges, universities, and systems whose members share a learning- and teaching-centered culture, a historic commitment to underserved student populations, and a dedication to research and creativity that advances their regions’ economic progress and cultural development. These are institutions Delivering America’s Promise of Opportunities for All.
