• Scholarships for Undergraduate Study in China

    We are pleased to announce that the Educational Office, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, in Washington, D.C., has approved the Chinese Government Scholarship awards for U.S. undergraduate students attending AASCU member colleges and universities for the 2018 to 2019 academic year. We are able to offer scholarships for one academic year (Sept. 2018 - July 2019), or semester programs in the Fall (Sept. 2018 - Feb. 2019) or Spring (March 2019 - July 2019). 


    Scholarship Award Details

    1. About AASCU-Chinese Government Scholarship:

    • The AASCU designated scholarship from the Chinese Embassy is only available to undergraduate students from AASCU member institutions.
    • The scholarship allows students to study the Chinese language and/or other academic subjects for either one academic year or one semester.
    • The scholarship money, offered by China Scholarship Council is disbursed to the Chinese universities, not to the individual students.
    • Candidates are encouraged to apply for the AASCU recommended Chinese partner universities listed in the Resource Section.  AASCU currently has student and faculty exchange programs with these partner institutions.
    • The one-year academic program in China is from September 2018 to July 2019.
    • The semester program is either from September 2018 to February 2019, or from March 2019 to July 2019.

     
    2. Eligibility:

    Applicants should have a strong interest in Chinese language and culture, and participating in exchanges programs between the United States and China. Applicants are required to be:

    • U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents in the United States
    • Full time students enrolled in AASCU institutions
    • Students with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above

     
    3. Scholarship items:

    Each scholarship is valued at approximately $10,000.00 US dollars for the one-year program. International round-trip airfare and the China Visa Application fees are the responsibility of the student. The scholarship includes: tuition, room and board, health insurance, travel/conference allowance/fees, and a stipend. 


    Application Requirements

    1. Submit the following items to AASCU via email to Sufei Li by January 31, 2018

    • AASCU Application Form (Please first select three preferred Chinese universities from AASCU’s Recommended University List) 
    • Copy of your passport page 
    • Current transcript 
    • Personal statement listing the applicant's study objectives
    • Two recommendation letters (from academic advisors or senior administrators)

     
    2. After receiving the Chinese Embassy's Award Letters from AASCU in March, the next steps of the application include the following: 

    • Contact the three preferred universities for the “Pre-admission Letters.”
    • Fill out the on-line Chinese Government Scholarship application
    • Build your application package by providing two sets of each of the documents listed below:

      • Chinese language proficiency exam score (HSK) if ever taken (knowledge of Chinese is not required, but preferred)
      • List of three academic institutions in China where you would like to study
      • Notarized photocopy of highest diploma (high school diploma)
      • Personal statement listed with the applicant's study objectives
      • Photocopy of transcript from the student's AASCU college or university (at least one of them should be an official transcript)
      • Printed online application form with picture attached
      • Three pre-admission letters from the preferred Chinese universities (if available)
      • Two recommendation letters from academic advisors or senior administrators  


    3. The complete application package should be mailed to AASCU. The due date will be announced after the online application becomes available.
