AASCU’s American Democracy Project (ADP) is partnering with The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to organize presidential debate watch parties for ADP campuses in fall 2020. The parties can either be held virtually or following social distancing guidelines, and the organizations will provide a variety of resources to ensure the experience is meaningful for students.
CPD was established in 1987 to ensure that general election debates for the offices of president and vice president of the United States are a permanent part of the electoral process. Janet Brown, executive director of the CPD, delivered the plenary for the June session of the 2020 Virtual Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting, which had 500 participants.
If your campus wants to be included in the watch parties, contact Cathy Copeland, ADP program coordinator, at CopelandC@aascu.org and provide the name and contact information for who can serve as a coordinator for your institution.
