AASCU and the China Center for International Educational Exchange’s (CCIEE)
Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program hosted a graduation ceremony for its largest class in history: 490 students from 50 Chinese and 17 U.S. institutions. The graduation ceremony, the 18th for the program, took place on June 21. Half of the graduates received the academic excellence award with GPAs above 3.5.
About 100 participants from 35 Chinese institutions and the CCIEE and China Education Association for International Exchange joined the graduation in person in Nanjing, China. More than 50 U.S. participants joined the meeting through Zoom, including presidents, provosts, and senior
international officers from 20 U.S. institutions and AASCU staff.
Chancellor James Schmidt of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and President Chen Guoxiang of Nanjing Normal University spoke at the graduation on behalf of the participating institutions in the U.S. and China. Additionally, local newspapers and television stations
reported on the event.
More than 180 of the program’s students who were delayed in coming into the U.S. due to the COVID-19 pandemic have applied/reapplied to come in August.
