AASCU’s American Democracy
Project (ADP) and NASPA are committed to advancing the civic engagement movement
in higher education. Join us for the 2023 Civic Learning and Democratic
Engagement (CLDE) meeting in June; this is the only annual
conference that brings together students, faculty, staff, and community
partners to advance the civic learning and democratic engagement movement in
higher education. Together, AASCU’s ADP and
NASPA will ensure that students graduate from our colleges and
universities—both public and private—prepared to be the informed, engaged
citizens that our communities and our democracy need.
About the Conference
Our 2023 CLDE (CLDE23)
will facilitate exchanges of knowledge and develop a sense of community around
our shared civic learning and democratic engagement work. As a community we have adopted the CLDE Theory of Change and strive to create effective strategies
and models that strengthen civic learning and democratic engagement. Participants
will have opportunities to network and develop their civic-minded thinking and
practices through plenary sessions, site visits, concurrent sessions, posters,
receptions, pre-conference workshops, and working meetings.
Conference proposals and activities will align with the following areas of focus:
- Integrating equity, justice, diversity, inclusion and accessibility
- Incorporating experiential learning opportunities
- Balancing voter engagement with broader civic engagement
- Implementing and assessing institution-wide civic learning objectives
- Enacting pedagogical and programmatic strategies
- Strengthening community and campus integration of civic engagement
