AASCU ANNOUNCES LUIS MALDONADO AS ITS NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR GOVERNMENT RELATIONS AND POLICY ANALYSIS

AASCU is pleased to announce the appointment of Luis Maldonado as its next Vice President for Government Relations and Policy Analysis. Maldonado has more than 25 years of progressive experience as a successful advocacy professional in state government, academia and nonprofit settings, including serving for the past five years as the chief advocacy officer at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).

At HACU, Maldonado advocated on behalf of policies that impact the institutions that enroll the most Hispanics in higher education and for the largest-ever federal appropriations funding levels available to Hispanic-Serving Institutions. He also implemented effective legislative and advocacy strategies, created legislative and public policy agendas, guided the work of two public policy committees and developed three separate grassroots programs at for-profit and nonprofit organizations.

Maldonado received his master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Puerto Rico and his bachelor’s degree in Consumer Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a board member of the Committee for Education Funding and a former member of the Latino Health Steering Committee for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

As the Vice President for Government Relations and Policy Analysis, Maldonado will oversee AASCU’s Division of Government Relations and Policy Analysis and the Grants Resource Center. He will lead the management, planning and development of AASCU’s Public Policy Agenda and advocacy for our member campuses. Maldonado will officially begin his role on July 8.
