Supporting state colleges and universities is an investment in the future of your state.

State colleges and universities (SCUs) matter. We are responsive to the needs of the state and local region, committed to responsible, transparent and respectful deployment of resources and taxpayer dollars.

SCUs use campus resources to create and facilitate programs and partnerships that make meaningful and lasting change in local communities, and create workforce talent to support local and regional business needs. Our students are not just ready to work, but to help shape and expand the world into which they graduate.

Through AASCU, SCUs have access to a number of programs and initiatives that help distinguish their role in higher education and bring distinctive value to students and the local community.

    • Our American Democracy Project is a multi-campus initiative focused on public higher education’s role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy. The goal of the American Democracy Project is to produce graduates who are committed to being knowledgeable, involved citizens in their communities.
    • The first year of college has emerged as the critical barrier to college success, the point at which colleges experience the greatest loss of students. Re-imagining the First Year of College is a new project aimed at ensuring success for all students, particularly those who have historically been underserved by higher education: low income, first generation, and students of color.

With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USA Funds, AASCU has created a coalition of 44 member institutions that will work together for three calendar years (2016-2018) to develop comprehensive, institutional transformation that redesigns the first year of college and creates sustainable change for student success.

    • Global Challenges Project is an AASCU program that helps SCUs develop innovative initiatives that will prepare students for the challenges they will face as 21st century citizens
