About the Conference

“Harnessing the Power of Higher Education: AASCU Institutions as Engines for Economic Growth”

AASCU institutions play a key role in developing regional economies, promoting individual economic mobility, and shaping the next generation of workers. The economists and researchers at TIAA share our belief that public universities can lift communities. This symposium is part of a broader reexamination of the concept of our universities as “Stewards of Place,” which AASCU first raised almost 20 years ago through a series of publications and research.

AASCU’s 2019 Fall Presidential Symposium, presented in partnership with TIAA, provides an opportunity for AASCU presidents and chancellors to hear from experts and their peers about the ways AASCU institutions contribute to local, regional and national economic growth.

Participants will accomplish the following:

  • Hear from experts about higher education’s contributions to the public good.
  • Collaborate with public relations specialists to draft strategies to communicate their institutions’ regional impact and goals.
  • Discuss and share methods for creating change.
